5th Avenue perform as an energetic instrumental band, usually acoustic, but also play electric from time to time. They have freshly styled song-arrangements from a repertoire that includes music from Western- and Eastern Europe as well as a fusion of Afrikaans traditional and gypsy music.
The core members are Jacek on violin and André on accordion. However, instruments can be added so that they can be booked from a 2-piece up to a 5-piece band. The additional instruments are double bass/electric bass, guitar and either percussion or drums. In any combination they give a very dynamic performance which just demonstrate their versatility. If booked as a 2- or 3 piece band, they are totally mobile which in itself creates a special and intimate atmosphere.
As individuals, Jacek performed as first violinist of the Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra during Luciano Pavarotti’s South African tour, while André performed at the Bloemfontein Volksblad Kunstefees 2006 in the award winning production Altyd Jonker, a show based on the life of South African poet, Ingrid Jonker. The two of them also performed at major art festivals such as KKNK-, Aardklop-, Geelstert-, Grahamstown-, Windhoek-, and Walvis festivals.
Jacek and André as well as the rest of the group is based in Cape Town. However, they are available to perform countrywide at weddings, corporate functions, private functions, restaurants, wine estates or only as background musicians.
