TARABU is an electrifying Jazz and World music group from the Cape Winelands. The word “Tarabu” is Swahili and, depending on the context, it translates in English to “joy”, “concert” or “instrumental music”. The group features Francois le Roux (saxophones and clarinets), Philip Malan (guitars) and Lucas Heinen (accordion). Special guests sometimes feature on bass guitar, percussion and voice.
All three musicians are highly accomplished performers and composers, each in his on right, and as a band they aim to fuse some of the essential elements of Jazz and World music. For their original music they draw inspiration from a wide variety of music genres, such as most Jazz styles, finger-style acoustic guitar music, Walzes, Tangos, Funk and Blues, Folk music from the Middle-East and France, as well as some popular styles and more. Experimentation, creativity and skill are a few of the key ingredients in the mix. – The Month, 2014
